Powers: Mutant ability to control magnetism and shape and manipulate magnetic fields...Also an expert in genetic engineering and an excellent hand to hand combatant...His magnetic abilities can increase his physical strength to the 100 ton class...He also has minor psychic abilities. 

Origin: Magneto was born with his abilities as he is a mutant...It took him several years to learn of his powers as he unleashed them to avenge the death of his daughter...His wife left him shortly thereafter and began his "up and down" life as villain and mentor and has become Marvel's 2nd greatest villain behind only Doctor Doom and the X-Men's greatest villain by far.

Magneto was clearly a huge hit being the X-Men's major threat starring almost in every other issue of that title, but he was also a great "off" villain for other characters to face off against...Magneto has been through a lot of changes in his long career as he has gone from being a would be world-beater to being a mentor to many mutants around the world and even revered at by the X-Men themselves...His past is very mysterious and we are learning more about him each and every issue he appears in like this one where he fights a cosmic powered Spidey!...Magneto has recently been going through even more changes as we learn much more about his past with major storylines running through both Uncanny X-Men and X-Men...He has also had a couple of mini series of his own as well as a one shot through the years.
