Amazing Spider-Man #50

1st Appearance of The Kingpin. First battle with Spider-Man was in #51.

The Kingpin made his first of many appearances in Amazing Spider-Man #50 but it wasn't until issue #51 that Spider-Man first did battle with the fat man while trying to silence J. Jonah Jameson for his many editorials on underworld crime...The Kingpin made his way to the top of east coast organized crime, a position he has had since then with just a couple of interruptions...The Big Man, Frederick Foswell was shot and killed by the Kingpin's henchman in issue #52 after taking a shot intended for Jameson...He went on to take on the identity of the Brainwasher in his next appearance and later learned that a rival crime leader, the Schemer, was his son Richard...He was left in a state of shock for awhile after that...With the love of his life, Vanessa at his side, the Kingpin went into "retirement" to appease her but it wasn't for long until he came back into "business" and I don't mean his humble dealings in spices from the far east!

For years, the Kingpin was only a Spider-Man villain, with only a few guest appearances in other titles such as Captain America, but that soon changed with his many appearances in Daredevil...It can also be opined that he is now more of a Daredevil villain that that of a Spider-Man villain...We learn the Kingpin's real name in Daredevil #170...Also, in the same issue, his wife Vanessa is kidnapped and thought for dead...He then regained control of his mobs and returned to the life of crime he was once very familiar with...He later found his wife to be alive but amnesiac...He has appeared in more issues of Daredevil than any other title and is still used in that series as a major Daredevil villain.

More recently, the Kingpin had made his usual many appearances in Daredevil and the Spider-Titles but very little light is shed on the early days in the career of the Kingpin and Wilson Fisk...There are a few instances of stories that would come close to resembling the origin of the man who made his first kill at age 12 and one of the most entertaining is the one told in Amazing Spider-Man #-1, a "flashback" month story... Other excellent stories involving the Kingpin are Spider-Man: Made Men and Spider-Man/ Kingpin To The Death One-Shots...Most recently, a blind Kingpin can be seen in the limited series Daredevil/ Spider-Man as his title the Kingpin of Crime is challenged once again.
