Hobgoblin's History

Right from the very first meeting, everyone knew that every match-up between Spidey and the Hobgoblin would be classic in the same vein as the Green Goblin...It was a long time in Spider-Man's titles since introducing a MAJOR villain such as this!...The mystery surrounding the TRUE identity of the first Hobgoblin was one of the greatest seen in any Spider-Man title.

The first casualty of mistaken identity was one Samuel "Lefty" Donovan who was manipulated into becoming the Hobgoblin and died battling Spider-Man...Hobgoblin was also a featured villain in other Non-Spidey titles as well including the little known Power Pack #29 as well as She-Hulk and Secret Wars II...The mystery continues!...Peter Parker's long time friend Flash Thompson is also manipulated into becoming the Hobgoblin as he is captured by the authorities

Just WHO is the REAL Hobgoblin?!...The original Hobgoblin was mainly featured in Amazing Spider-Man, The main Spidey title, but on occasion dropped in to say "hello" to Spidey in his other titles...The mystery is a mystery no more!...The three part mini-series Hobgoblin Lives written by the creator of the Hobgoblin, Roger Stern, gives the long time readers a well written history of the Hobgoblin as well as who he is!...Oh yeah, it turned out to be Roderick Kingsley, a powerful man that has appeared in Spider-Man's comics for a long time!

The original Hobgoblin was captured and put in prison after the major revelation of who he was...He eventually broke lose with some help from the original Green Goblin and this in itself led to a very good story played out in Spectacular Spider-Man #259-261 and featured the inevitable classic battle between the 2 major spidey villains!
