Amazing Spider-Man #14

1st Appearance of The Green Goblin & first battle with Spider-Man.

 

 

After their initial meeting, The Green Goblin soon rose to the top of Spider-Man's Rogues Gallery and fans loved him...He would show up in Amazing Spider-Man #17, 18, 23, 26, 27...And then in Amazing Spider-Man #31 a character was introduced by the name of Harry Osborn who was one of Peter Parker's college classmates and he soon became one of Peter's closest friends and even him roommate...In Amazing Spider-Man #37, Harry's father was introduced, Norman Osborn, a very wealthy and powerful man who ran Osborn Industries.

 

 

There was always something mysterious about Norman Osborn in his early appearances...He was obsessed with power from the get go and along with his associate Mendell Stromm, they created a Goblin Formula that would enhance one's intellectual and physical powers...Stromm went off to prison for embezzlement and Norman found Mendell's notes for the formula...Norman experimented but what he received along with the enhanced powers was insanity after an explosion with the formula...Norman has lost his memory on and off concerning him being the Green Goblin early on, but it was triggered back from time to time.

In the classic Amazing Spider-Man #39 & 40, Spider-Man and Green Goblin learned each other's identities...The mystery surrounding Norman Osborn was revealed as he took his mask off at the end of Amazing Spider-Man #39: He was the Green Goblin! Classic storyline after classic storyline would soon follow with the Goblin as the main nemesis: Amazing #96-98, the non- comic code approved story dealing with drug usage...Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2...And the biggest of them all: Amazing Spider-Man #121 & 122 that featured the death of Peter's girlfriend Gwen Stacy in #121then the "death" of Norman in #122...He was thought to be dead for many a year.

 

 

The clone saga played an integral part in the "career" of Norman Osborn...After soooooo long into the saga, it was revealed that it was Norman Osborn that was the mastermind behind the entire mess...It was a shocking revelation that forever changed the Spider-Verse...He never did indeed die as his healing powers saved his life from his own goblin glider impaling him at the end of Amazing Spider-Man #122...He was back for good but this time he did most of his damage as Norman Osborn...He participated in the Gathering Of Five ritual that gave each "player" a power: Immortality, Knowledge, Power, Death & Madness & you know which one Norman was shooting for!

Norman ended up, fittingly,  with the power of great madness and even went as far as faking the death of Peter's Aunt May...He has been in the possession of the brotherhood of the Scriers ever since going completely insane due to a very long battle with Spider-Man...With the Scriers, Norman schemes his next moves aimed at Spider-Man and most importantly, Peter Parker...Big things are planned for Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin as could be expected...Just check out the mini-series Revenge Of The Green Goblin that explains what has happened to Norman since the madness set that he gained from the Gathering Of Five ritual.
