| Professor Miles Warren
From an innocent little cameo appearance in an early issue of Amazing Spider-Man, It is doubtful that big things were planned for Professor Miles Warren in the future. As Professor at Empire State University, Miles was a role model for the likes of Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, and others...It was only a 1 panel appearance and slowly but surely, Warren received more and more panels to develop his character...It just wasn't the character we got to know much later in those very same pages! There were, and still are many mysteries concerning the life of Warren and they got more and more mysterious when the readers learned that he was the Jackal...What we do know is that he was married with a son and daughter who were all drastically killed in a motor vehicle accident of some sort. Some even believe that it was that of a genetically altered Jackal that caused the accident. |

Miles was always curious about the science of genetics and even became an associate of the Master Geneticist himself, The High Evolutionary. He was eventually banished by the big HE for unauthorized experiments and he also became consumed by his work...One of the animals he loved to experiment on was the Jackal and he eventually assumed an identity he knew well. As a Professor, he fell in love with one of his student named Gwen Stacy, also Peter Parker's girlfriend. When she died at the hands of the original Green Goblin, Warren blamed Spider-Man for her death...After discovering that Peter is Spider-Man, he began cloning both Gwen and Peter from tissue samples he obtained years earlier...The first Clone saga ensued and the rest is history. |
| Miles was not seen since due to the fact that he genetically altered himself to be more of a human-like Jackal after his clone was killed in an explosion at the end of the first clone saga...The second clone saga saw the death of Miles as he plummeted to his death as the Jackal from a tall building...Selected reading for the good Professor include Amazing Spider-Man #53, his first long appearance as he, Peter & Gwen go to a science exhibit together, #114 where he has a good talk with Gwen, and Untold Tales Of Spider-Man #25 where he and Peter first meet and had his first glimpse of Gwen. |
