~Captain George Stacy~

Captain George Stacy

  • Husband to Helen
  • Father to Gwen (Deceased)
  • Brother to Arthur & Nancy (in-law)
  • Uncle to Paul and Jill
  • 1st App.: Amazing Spider-Man #56
  • Death: Amazing Spider-Man #90

George Stacy was a family man and a well respected Police Captain in Queens, New York City...Many people looked up to him even after he retired and continued on to serve as an advisor to the department. Peter Parker has always looked up to the man and maybe even looked at him as a father figure...Extremely intelligent, Captain Stacy has been hinted at knowing that Peter Parker was Spider-Man throughout his short-lived supporting character role in the issues of Amazing Spider-Man. This possibility became a reality when in Amazing Spider-Man #90, another landmark event in Spider-Man's life occurred that would change his life forever.

Captain George Stacy died a hero while saving a child from falling debris caused by a fight between Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus...The most remarkable thing concerning the Captain's death is that he directed his last words at Spider-Man by referring to him as "Peter", asking him to look after his daughter Gwen. This brought to a front, any question regarding the possibility about Stacy's knowledge that Peter was Spider-Man as he was always interested in knowing more and more about Spider-Man.  His death was the first important loss for Peter since the death of his Uncle Ben way back in the beginning. Captain Stacy and his daughter Gwen were very close & Gwen was devastated after her father's untimely death and even blamed Spider-Man for it up until her death at the hand of the Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man #121.

For a character with such a short "Comic Life", Stacy has not appeared in nearly as many issues as most of Spider-Man's supporting characters, so keep a good look-out for some good reads with Captain Stacy such as Spider-Man -1 (Flashback month), Amazing Spider-Man #56 (1st appearance), 80 (imitated by the Chameleon), 90 (death)...Also take a look at Spider-Man: Death & Destiny #1-3 & Marvels #4 for more on his death. Captain Stacy's death has been recounted many times since it occurred...Spider-Man has been  cleared of his death in Amazing Spider-Man #186 but the legacy of Captain George Stacy lives on to this day with many a flashback and even mini-series such as Spider-Man: Death & Destiny and countless reprints.
