It's the 50th Fantastic Issue!...And on the cover of this anniversary issue, long time readers can see characters not seen since Amazing Spider-Man #2, and their second appearance comes with a major twist that will be seen in the continuation of this story in the very next issue.

The story begins as Spider-Man has control of the Smuggler from last issue and plans on sending him away to being locked up. After a minor scuffle with some common thugs, the Smuggler gets free from being roped up and attacks Spider-Man on a rail yard. The Smuggler lands on a rail that sends hundreds of volts throughout his body before Spider-Man saves his life. Now unconscious, the Smuggler is left behind for the authorities to take control of.

Now home, Peter calls Debra Whitman and invites her to dinner the next night celebrating his Aunt May's engagement to Nathan Lubensky. The two arrive at Restwell Nursing Home meeting Aunt May and Nathan. As they progress towards the restaurant, we learn that they are being followed by some shadowy characters. Arriving at the restaurant, Peter begins to have flashbacks concerning his Uncle Ben and his relationship to his Aunt. He realizes that she looks at Nathan the same way she used to look at Uncle Ben, but the thought quickly vanishes as his spider-sense goes off. It seems everyone at the restaurant has gone away except for some of the workers who advance towards their table in an unfriendly fashion. Peter gets up and accidentally removes a mask from one of the workers revealing him to be one of the aliens last seen working for the Terrible Tinkerer in Amazing Spider-Man #2.

Wondering what they want, Peter begins a fight with the aliens that ends with the threat by one alien of shooting the others at the table. The aliens ask for information pertaining to Dutch Malone and the treasure he buried in the old Parker home. Remember that the fortune was eaten by Silverfish as revealed in Amazing Spider-Man #200. Peter realizes this and proclaims that he is the only one with information about the hidden loot. The aliens quickly fire bola guns at Peter trapping him and then bringing him into their spacecraft which soon takes off revealing a last page stunner: The alien's leader is revealed to be none other than the master of illusion, Mysterio! And he claims that he shall help these alien creatures conquer the earth.
