This double sized anniversary issue offers the first ever battle between Spider-man and the menacing Venom. The issue boasts the penciling talents of Todd McFarlane and the writing talents of David Michelinie. In this issue Spider-man finds out that it is ex Globe worker Eddie Brock who is behind the symbiote. Spider-man uses his friends The Fantastic Four to help defeat Venom by borrowing a sonic blaster from Reed Richards which he uses but to no great effect, Venom takes Spidey to where it all began for Eddie Brock 
and Venom our lady of saints church Manhattan, Spidey outsmarts him though and uses the bells yet again to defeat his most deadly foe. On the last page we see Spider-man reverting to his tried and trusted red and blue uniform.
